IACT was created so thermographers from diverse backgrounds can have an accessible place for unbiased information and services to enchance their business.
One of IACT's goals is to provide the public a place where they can find unbiased information on thermography and qualified thermographers. IACT is the only non-profit membership association that is bringing together thermographers in all areas.
IACT was conceived in the summer of 2006 due to the lack of unbiased, cohesive information available on thermography to the general public and thermographers. With the growing number of people acquiring thermal cameras there needs to be a way for the public to locate information and a qualified thermographer to meet their needs.
While IACT welcomes all thermographers, the primary disciplines on which we currently focus are:
| BUILDING SCIENCES |
The art of identifying shapes, colors, and images in an infrared picture; primarily looking for a change in pattern rather than concentrating on specific temperature differences. | CONDITION MONITORING |
The science of reading the differences in temperature to monitor the condition of equipment with the intent of anticipating problems or breakdowns before they occur. Examples include electrical and HVAC applications in plants and factories, transformer and power line inspections, etc. |
| MEDICAL INFRAFRED IMAGING |
Medical infrared imaging is ideal for applications where physiological information is needed to aid in the differential diagnosis process and/or the monitoring of physiologic responses to treatment. The most common areas of clinical use fall under the categories of breast health and as an aid in determining the primary causes of undiagnosed pain. |
Why Is There A Need for IACT?
In a word - service. IACT was created to provide these three services:
1) Service to the public. By having a reference point for the consumer (individuals and business alike) to go to find qualified thermographer with the appropriate equipment, creates consumer confidence in the thermal market.
2) Service to its members. Serving its members by education, information, and ethical notoriety.
3) Service to the science of thermography. Public awareness of this new science in literally in its infancy. Educating the public with honest, unbiased information about the importance of thermography, will allow thermography to grow and flourish in the most honest, ethical way possible. To mention a few of the ways that IACT will educate the public is through Science Museum Exhibits, Grants, Scholarships, and Loans, and Lobbying for state or federally recognized certifications for the various disciplines of thermography.
